Jim Winters has lived in San Francisco since 1992. He works out of his home art studio in Diamond Heights. He lives with his partner, Jeff Stallings, and their two dogs: a French Bulldog named Antointette (Mrs. Pickle), and a Boikin Spaniel named Merlot.
Winters holds a BFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia where he graduated in 1988. He now works in a variety of media and applies his skills not just to fine art (drawing and painting), but also to graphic design, illustration and decorative painting.
When working on fine art, Winters focuses primarily on portraiture and his sources range from faces of friends and loved ones, to found photographs and film stills.
To impart vitality to his work, he likes to cycle through different media not only to keep the work itself interesting but to keep practicing the manipulation of different materials.
Winters' subject matter often conveys a sense of humor and an appreciation of irony and his love of color and pattern is visible throughout his body of work.
Winters counts Pop Art, Surrealism, graphic design, photography, cinema, decorative arts and the ephemera of everyday life as his influences.
Always eager to take on new and challenging freelance projects, Winters welcomes correspondence from his website audience. Please refer to the contact page for email information.
